Historical Glance:
The Imam Hussain Blood Drive was established on the 9th of Muharram of 1421 Hijri (April 5th, 2000), through the collaboration of efforts of residents of Noaim. It was launched by the Noaim Charity Fund and the Ministry of Health with the aim of supporting Bahrain’s Central Blood Bank. The drive was inspired by Imam Hussain’s revolution, which constitutes a shining beacon and eternal lesson in giving and humanitarian sacrifice. The slogan, “Hussain is an everlasting flame,” accompanied the launch of the first blood drive, held at the Noaim Health Center, which scored wide success and high appeal among different government bodies, NGOs, as well as individuals, as the first blood drive ever in Bahrain’s history. The number of actual donors from the first year campaign reached 268, mostly males. The initiative developed in later years to become 21 blood drives held around the Kingdom’s different governorates year round, following the lead of Noaim’s fine example of organization and implementation.
In the year 2005, the Supreme Committee of Imam Hussain’s Blood Drive established the 8th day of Muharram for women, taking an unprecedented step never attempted by any other NGO or government body. Furthermore, several activities and events were added to the sidelines of the blood drive in order to increase the cultural awareness of participants about the importance of voluntary blood donation for the benefit of the ill, irrespective of their identities or ethnic and religious belonging, achieving by that the noble cause of reinforcing national ties between different segments living on the land of our beloved Kingdom.
