A glance from Brother Nomel Gilongos's speech on the 5th night:
I believe that a sinner is spiritually dead. He cannot commit to anything. There simply is no capacity for commitment. Thus, even if a spiritually dead person tries to do good; nothing comes out of it nor anything good really comes out of it. Here, Imam Hussein stood out. He clearly proved that he is not spiritually dead. He could have easily rejected or at least delayed god's command for him to go to Karbala since he performing Haj then. Yet, proving his obedience to God, he was willing to go and went with his family and friends. He knew it was a one way journey yet the prospect of death did not deter him to obey God. In the tragedy of Karbala, in the death of Imam Hussein, in the lamentations for Ashoora, what we see is a shining example of
something good coming out. Imam Hussein was able to defend his faith.
